One Piece Chapter 1044 is without a doubt one of the manga series’ most exciting chapters. Apart from Luffy’s awakening, the newest manga chapter also surprised fans with another unexpected move from the traitor of the Nine Red Scabbards, Kurozumi Kanjuro.
During the early stages of the Wano Country Arc, One Piece introduced Kanjuro as one of the loyal followers of Oden Kozuki. But just before the Onigashima Raid, Kanjuro showed his true self and revealed his affiliation with Orochi. Everyone was shocked to learn that Kanjuro was responsible for spoiling all the details of the raid.
All the samurai knew that Kanjuro had become an enemy, and all the samurai also treated him as a threat. Kanjuro even fought his former comrades after receiving the order from Orochi, but he was defeated. Despite the defeat, Orochi still uses Kanjuro for his own gain. Orochi asked Kanjuro to blow up the flying island of Onigashima while telling him that it was his final mission.
However, Kanjuro was once again stopped by Yamato. Meanwhile, Orochi was restrained by the debris with a seastone. At this moment, Kanjuro arrives, and, as usual, Orochi is still trying to use him. Orochi ordered Kanjuro to attack Kozuki Hiyori as she was the daughter of Oden.
Instead of attacking Hiyori, Kanjuro used his final and remaining flame to attack Orochi. Orochi was screaming in pain, and with him still being pinned down by a seastone, all he could do was scream. As Kanjuro burns Orochi, Hiyori tells him that the dawn will come and the Kozuki clan will always keep their promise.
It was a heartfelt moment for Hiyori as he watched the man who tortured his father burn. At the same time, it seems that Kanjuro is repaying all the good things that Oden did for him by saving Hiyori and taking down Orochi.
